Solid Fuel - Running the system
with only the solid fuel boiler working.
|
Heat leak radiator has circuit at all
times -Sometimes gravity and sometimes pumped
Function 1.
The H2
panel in a natural state with no electric switched on.
Programmer H/W off C/H off
Automatic boiler is off and cold.
Solid fuel appliance is firing in slumber mode with gravity
circuit functioning.
The valves are all naturally open, pipework circuits are free to
gravity circulation from the solid fuel appliance when the fire has been
lit. The return circulation goes back into the common return, and back
down to the solid fuel appliance.
Gravity circulation to
- hot water cylinder.
- heat leak circuit.

Red = Flow. Blue = Return. Orange =
Preheated Return. White = Not flowing.
|
Function 2.
When the water leaving the solid fuel appliance reaches
58°C, a dry well thermostat (aquastat) will switch to "make on
rise" and send a switched live to the H2 panel and the pump will
switch on.
The motorised valves 22 & 9 motored
closed to shut off the gravity circuit. The heat leak link valve begins to
close, taking around 3 minutes to fully shut
For the first three minutes, the new heat leak loop will recycle back
through item no.1 into the pump supply pipe and reduce the full pull of
the pump on the heating system and very much reduce the sudden pull that
is exerted on the open vent which in certain cases could pull a small
amount of air down the open vent into the heating system each time the
pump is switched on.
Programmer H/W off C/H off
Automatic boiler is off and cold.
Solid fuel appliance is firing and the flow has reached 58°C,
activating the pump.
Room thermostat not applicable at this stage. (Because CH is
off.)
Cylinder thermostat is calling. (Still plays a part even if HW
is off)
Bias thermostat temperature not reached (Adjustable
between 60° and 70°C)
Pumped circulation to
- hot water cylinder.
- heat leak circuit.
The heat leak loop recycles and
gradually reduces to nil over approximately 3 minutes.

Red = Flow. Blue = Return. Orange =
Preheated Return. White = Not flowing.
|
Function 3.
The solid fuel appliance energy being fully pumped
through the H2 panel to serve the hot water cylinder recharge coil, and
heat leak circuit.
The heat leak diverter valve is fully shut, the pumped heat leak flow
is now diverted through a small bore pipe controlling the flow rate to the heat
leak radiator.
Programmer H/W off C/H off
Automatic boiler is off and cold.
Solid fuel appliance is firing and the flow has reached 58°C,
activating the pump.
Room thermostat not applicable at this stage. (Because CH is
off.)
Cylinder thermostat is calling. (Still plays a part even if HW
is off)
Bias thermostat temperature not reached (Adjustable
between 60° and 70°C)
Pumped circulation to
- hot water cylinder.
- heat leak circuit.
The heat leak loop ceased to recycle.

Function 4.
Pumped Circuit for the Solid Fuel Boiler when in Hot Water and Heating Mode.
The
solid fuel
boiler is now producing more energy than the hot water cylinder recharge
coil can absorb, the consequential increase in
solid fuel flow temperature is detected by a phial connected to the Bais
thermostat and when the set temperature
(Adjustable
between 60° and 70°C)
is reached motorized Valve no 10/17
is motored to mid position and the heat is diverted to both the hot water
cylinder and the radiator
system.
The room thermostat, does not prevent above from happening in this
scenario because the solid fuel appliance needs to clear the surplus
energy.
Programmer H/W off C/H off
Automatic boiler is off and cold.
Solid fuel appliance is firing and the flow has reached 58°C,
activating the pump.
Room thermostat not applicable at this stage. (Because CH is
off.)
Cylinder thermostat is calling. (Still plays a part even if HW
is off)

- heat leak circuit.

Function 5.
The solid fuel appliance energy is being
fully pumped through the H2 panel to serve the heating system flow to
radiators, etc. and the heat leak circuit
When the hot water cylinder reaches optimum
temperature (detected by the cylinder thermostat), motorized Valve no 10/17
is motored open to the radiators and closed to the hot water cylinder.
Programmer H/W off C/H off
Automatic boiler is off and cold.
Solid fuel appliance is firing and the flow has reached 58°C,
activating the pump.
Room thermostat not applicable at this stage. (Because CH is
off.)
Cylinder thermostat is satisfied. (Still plays a part even if HW
is off)
Bias thermostat temperature reached (Adjustable
between 60° and 70°C)
Pumped circulation to
- heat leak circuit.
- radiators
